I am in serious need of computer help! You see, my mouse barely does this, but every month or so, it occasionally will go a bit out of control, as if someone else is controlling it. I've done complete virus scans, nothing appears. But this time, it was larger. My mouse went really out of control, and kept on left and right clicking while aiming to press the start button. I quickly shut off my system. Also, all links on this post are completely safe. They just link to info, not the actually supposed virus.
Now this has happened once before, but on a different computer. Nothing else happened that last time, so I guess it was safe. But this time, a few more things happened. First, I went on Spybot Search and Destroy. I analyzed what was to be immunized. Weird, I was told that a couple ten-thousands of files WEREN'T protected even though I immunized them just a few days ago.
After that, comes some really weird file. On Spybot S&D, I was scanning for spyware. This one file that appeared for a decent amount of seconds was called "PornBHO.ru"! Now, if I have this thing on my computer, why can I not remove it? The guide told me to delete a few registry keys on regedit, but I simply can't find them. I access regedit, get on the root folder, get on the AppID, but it's just not there. I've tried that with the other registry keys too. It's not there. I even downloaded "Regalyze", a registry managing tool. Nope, still not there.
"PornBHO.ru", from the description, reads to be malware that links to pornography ads once you open windows explorer, luckily, I use Firefox.
I'm using Windows XP-Professional Edition, SP3. I scanned the system32 folder with avast, nothing there, now I'm scanning my whole hard disk with avast. Currently nothing. Also, I scanned with Spybot S&D, nothing.
ANOTHER THING! Mozilla Firefox preferences weren't remembered. I started Firefox up, just to find out I wasn't using the theme I downloaded, and instead was using the default Firefox theme. Then, if you click tools>options, everything is set to the default. Adblock plus acted as if it had been JUST RECENTLY installed, even though I installed it just a month ago.
System restore... I've tried a restore point I made just yesterday, In fact, that is currently my only restore point since the other ones were deleted. I can't access it. The system restore is incomplete.
Now, that's one exit blocked off. I only have a few options.
-Buy a new hard disk. Besides, my crappy hard disk only has 38.2 Gigs anyway.
-Reformat.
-Replace the hard disk with another hard disk I have from another computer.
Unfortunately, I'm afraid that's too risky. If I purchase some random hard disk off Ebay, the potential virus could track credit cards, passwords etc. The reason I'm not too secure about newgrounds, well, all the virus can do is get me banned. Right? Also, if I tried to physically purchase the hard disk instead of getting it off ebay, that would be too expensive. I'm not aiming for some 500-1000GB hard disk, just like 60-320.
Also, I did a small test out of anxiety. When the mouse went crazy while I was watching a flash. I was on this conservation power option, in which the monitor would shut down after just one minute of inactivity. I tested what would happen by watching the computer, not moving anything, for one minute. Surprisingly, this time at the test, nothing happened.
Another update, I ran a thorough scan with avast. Allowing it to scan archive files, nothing appeared. It said that 3 system restore points couldn't be scanned because they were password protected. But how would I get a virus from a system restore point anyways? So, currently, not much information is granted.
And another update. Haven't been attacked for some days, then while I was going to post, I get this error concerning how a livesmark or something can't be updated. After waiting a few seconds, I found out the short lag on my computer happened because suddenly 10 more tabs appeared with the livesmark title or something.
Please help. I will be posting a link to this in the Computer hospital shortly. This occurred while I was watching a flash on newgrounds.
Final update, I'll consider this safe for now. Unless something important manages to happen.
